CALEFFI HED® High-Efficiency Air Eliminator
Function
The CALEFFI HED® high-efficiency air eliminator removes up to 99% of the air contained in the heat transfer fluid on the first pass. As a result, systems operate under optimal conditions with nearly air-free water, significantly reducing noise, corrosion, and mechanical problems.
The air eliminator was specifically developed for use in heat pump systems and heating systems and is patent pending. It can be installed in horizontal and vertical pipes as well as with axially rotatable connections.
Materials
The housing of the CALEFFI HED® is made of PA66G30, the float of PP. Guide and float rods are made of brass (EN 12164 CW614N), float lever and spring of stainless steel (EN 10270-3 / AISI 302). Seals are made of EPDM.
Technical Performance
Water is intended as the working medium; the maximum operating pressure and the maximum blow-off pressure are each 3 bar. The permissible operating temperature range is between 0 and 90 °C, making the air eliminator suitable for common heating and heat pump conditions.
Connections and Drainage
Available in 1" female thread (ISO 228-1) and 1 1/4" female thread (ISO 228-1) versions with O-ring. The drain connection is equipped with a hygroscopic cap that enables safe drainage with minimal condensation.
Technical properties of the insulation
The supplied insulation is made of PPE with a density of 38 g/l. The thermal conductivity is 0.039 W/(m·K) at 10 °C and the water vapor diffusion resistance factor is ≥ 39,700, which ensures high thermal protection and vapor barrier properties.
Operating principle
The special arrangement of the connections creates a downward rotational movement of the heat transfer medium from the upper to the lower connection. In the middle of the body, a calm zone is created where micro-bubbles collect and are pushed to the outer wall.
Thanks to the patented internal shape, air rises in the central area and collects in the float chamber. There it is captured by the float mechanism and released to the outside air in a controlled manner.
Sizing
The maximum flow rate at which the CALEFFI HED® ensures its highest performance is 3 m³/h. At lower flow rates, the choice of the deaerator can be based on the pipe diameter to ensure optimal air separation.
Advantages
The use of the high-efficiency deaerator reduces operating noise, minimizes corrosion risks, and prevents functional malfunctions. The high separation efficiency improves the efficiency and service life of the entire system.
Flexibility in installation (horizontal, vertical, rotatable connections) as well as robust materials make the device reliable in various heating and heat pump applications.
Installation instructions
The vent can be installed in various pipe orientations; accessibility to the float chamber and the drain connection should be ensured for maintenance and visual inspections. Observe the specified limits for pressure and temperature.
Product variants
Versions for copper pipes are available as item no. 551602 and 551603; for steel pipes, items 551606, 551607 and 551617 are intended. Select the appropriate variant according to the pipe materials and pipe dimensions.
